I was inspired by the commensalistic relationship between humpback whales and barnacles— barnacles live on the whales’ bodies to find food, and the whales are neither helped nor harmed by the relationship. I wanted to take this idea of commensalism to the next level by showing that the other fish have also found the whale as a home because the coral reef has died.
